Commercial
Walgreens
AHJ provides the structural design for these retail stores throughout the Pacific Northwest. The stores vary in size from approximately 13,000 to 15,000 square feet. The main structure is a steel joist and deck roof with structural masonry unit walls. The floor is a typical concrete slab on grade with a concrete foundation and conventional spread footings. Multiple canopies are designed at the front elevations as well as a drive through pharmacy canopy.
Washington Mutual Capital Plaza
This eleven story steel frame structure utilized the latest design concepts for seismic and wind resistance by using an eccentric braced frame system, one of the first applications in the Treasure Valley. The building is set in a tight corner lot, abutting the historic Egyptian Theater on one side and a five story parking structure on the other. A combination of drilled piers and large spread footings were provided due to the close proximity of these existing structures.
Educational
Alzar School – Cascade, ID
This project consists of a main building, bath house and staff housing for an outdoor adventure school. The structures will be The structures were designed for heavy mountain snow loads and constructed with conventional wood framed roof, walls and floors. Some of the structures will include porches and decks.
Boise High School Gym Renovation
This project is for campus improvements that include a gymnasium renovation with seismic upgrades, a new 3-story performing arts building, and a new entrance structure serving both occupancies.
Filer Intermediate School – Filer, ID
A new 55,000sf single level school structure that utilizes a wood framed roof structure in the classrooms and an open web steel joist structure in the gymnasium. The walls are masonry bearing walls. This project consists of approximately 122,500sf of multiple theatrical and concert hall spaces. The complexity of the architectural concept called for numerous structural challenges. The use of multiple materials including concrete, masonry and steel integrated both function and an economical design.

This 250,000sf high school was designed and constructed for the Meridian School District. The building is a two-story masonry structure with steel joists constructing the roofing system. This 24,700 sf school structure uses concrete tilt-up wall panel construction. The roof is a wood structure utilizing I-joists, glu-lam trusses and open web wood joists. The interior walls are wood stud. The floor is a concrete slab on grade with conventional spread footings.
Silver Trail Elementary – Kuna, ID
A new 65,000sf single level elementary school that has a multi-purpose room, cafeteria, media center and classrooms. Boise City Twenty Mile South Farm Maintenance Zero.Net Facility
This project consists of a 13,000sf CMU wall and pre-engineered wood roof truss maintenance building with two high truck/shop bays, an 1800sf mezzanine and office area. Special structural detailing helped create this Zero Net energy use facility, aligning with the City’s sustainability goals. This building achieved LEED Gold Certification.

Nampa Fire Station #5
This 8,600sf 3-Bay fire station was designed with concrete masonry unit walls and wood trusses. The living quarters and day areas utilize light framed walls and roof systems. This 160,000 sf hospital facility is a four-story complex, which includes operating rooms, laboratories, clinics, physical therapy areas, which include two therapeutic pools, offices and patient rooms. Grace Assisted Living Facilities – Multiple Idaho Locations
New assisted living facilities including a dining room, kitchen, common area and courtyards. The structures consist of pre-engineered wood trusses support by wood framed walls on a conventional foundation system. A porte-cochere is also designed using a cantilevered column system.
IGA (Idaho Gastroenterology Associates)
The IGA (Idaho Gastroenterology Associates) project is an ambulatory surgery center building which provides gastrointestinal checkup and health maintenance services. The 9700 square foot clinic features a tall clerestory structure and a large skylight above the central nursing stations for natural lighting.
Primary Health Headquarters – Garden City, ID
This 8,000 square foot building utilizes a steel hinged beam system to support the open web truss roof framing with only two internal columns. The strategically placed hinges helped reduce beam sizes without adding undesirable columns.
VA Community Living Center Buildings A & B – Boise, ID
This project consists of a new 2-story and 1-story skilled nursing facility totaling approximately 24,600sf. The buildings are steel framed with steel panel shear walls.
