This recreation facility is open web steel joist and steel roof deck supported by CMU bearing walls. The aquatic area is a two level space with some of the water features flowing in and around some of the structural elements. An architectural feature of the building is the large wall that runs through the building from the aquatic center to the gymnasium and visually ties the building and the different uses of the facility to one another. Structurally this wall, which was like a large sail, had to be designed to resist the large out-of-plane wind forces.
